1. Who we are

Vigil Earth is owned by WebAi.Scot Limited, a company registered in Scotland with company number SC886292. In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean WebAi.Scot Limited, and "you" means the person using Vigil Earth.

You can reach us at [email protected].

2. These terms

These terms cover the Vigil Earth app and this website. By using either, you agree to them. Please read them with our Privacy Policy, which explains what we do with your information.

When you download Vigil Earth from the App Store, Apple's standard licence for App Store apps also applies. If Apple's licence and these terms disagree about the licence to use the app itself, Apple's licence wins.

3. What Vigil Earth is, and what it is not

Vigil Earth is an information tool. It brings together weather forecasts, official weather warnings, disasters, reported incidents and government travel advice for the places you add, and tells you when something changes. It helps you make your own decisions. It does not make them for you.

Vigil Earth is not an emergency service. It does not replace official warnings, emergency alerts or the advice of the emergency services. If you are in danger, call the emergency number where you are (999 or 112 in the UK) and follow the instructions of the authorities on the ground.

We work to keep Vigil Earth accurate and up to date, but it depends on other organisations' information and on networks we do not control. Information can be late, incomplete or wrong. An alert can arrive late or not at all, for example if your phone is off, has no signal, or has notifications turned off. Check official sources before you act on anything important.

Travel advice is shown in the words of the government that publishes it, with a link to the official page. Vigil Earth is not produced or endorsed by any government.

Reported incidents come from news reports. They are labelled Reported because an official agency has not confirmed them.

Ask answers questions using Apple Intelligence and the information in Vigil Earth. It can get things wrong. Check anything important in the app itself or with an official source.

4. Free and Vigil Pro

Vigil Earth is free to download. The free version watches your Home: alerts for Home, a seven-day forecast, travel advice for every country from your own government, and the small and Lock Screen widgets.

Vigil Pro is an optional yearly subscription. It adds every place you care about, the Map, the medium and large widgets, and the full picture on every event, including unrest and travel risk. With Apple's Family Sharing, up to five family members can use it at no extra cost.

New subscribers get 7 days free. After that, Vigil Pro costs the price shown in the app before you buy. In the UK that was £24.99 a year when these terms were written. Prices in other countries are set through Apple.

5. Paying, renewing and cancelling

  • Apple takes payment through your Apple Account. We never see your card details.
  • If you start the free trial, you are charged when it ends, unless you cancel before then.
  • Vigil Pro renews automatically each year unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current year.
  • To cancel, open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep Vigil Pro until the end of the time you have paid for.
  • Apple handles refunds. You can ask for one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • If Vigil Pro ends, Home and travel advice stay free. Your other places pause and the Map locks. Nothing is deleted, and it all comes back if you subscribe again.
  • If the price changes, Apple tells you before it affects you, and you can cancel before it applies.

Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.

6. Your account

You do not need to give us your name or email to use Vigil Earth. The app creates an anonymous account the first time you open it, so your places and alerts work. If you choose Sign in with Apple, your places can follow you to a new phone.

You can delete your account at any time in the app, in Settings › Account. This deletes your places and settings from our servers. It does not cancel Vigil Pro, which you cancel through Apple.

7. Using Vigil Earth fairly

Vigil Earth is for personal use. If your company would like it for staff, email [email protected].

Please do not:

  • copy, scrape or resell the information in Vigil Earth, or use it to build a competing service;
  • try to reach parts of our systems you are not meant to, or interfere with how they work;
  • take apart or copy the app's code, except where the law allows it;
  • use Vigil Earth for anything unlawful, or to harm anyone.

If you do, we may suspend or close your access.

8. Who owns what

Vigil Earth, including its name, design, code and content, belongs to WebAi.Scot Limited. We give you a personal right, which you cannot pass on, to use the app and this website for yourself as these terms allow.

Some of the information in Vigil Earth belongs to the organisations that publish it and is used under their licences. Some is Crown copyright, used under the Open Government Licence v3.0. The credit and licence lines are on the Sources screen in the app's Settings.

9. Our responsibility to you

We provide Vigil Earth with reasonable care and skill.

We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for business losses, because Vigil Earth is for personal use.

Vigil Earth reports what others publish and what it detects. Where we have taken reasonable care, we are not responsible for the events it reports, or for the decisions you make using it.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.

If Vigil Earth is not working as it should, tell us at [email protected] and we will try to put it right.

10. Changes

We improve Vigil Earth all the time, and features may change. If a change affects what you pay for, we will tell you in the app first.

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app or on this page before it applies. The date at the top shows the latest version.

If we ever close Vigil Earth, we will give you at least 30 days' notice in the app.

11. The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of Scotland. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can bring a claim in your local courts. If you live outside the UK, you keep any protections your local law gives you.
